Monaco Grand Prix Halted by First-Lap Crash
Three-Car Collision Triggers Red Flag
The Monaco Grand Prix was halted during its opening lap on May 26, 2024, after a massive crash involving Formula One drivers Sergio Perez, Kevin Magnussen, and Zhou Guanyu.
Immediate Red Flag Raised
The incident occurred at the Sainte Devote corner, a notoriously narrow section of the track. As the cars approached the corner, Perez and Magnussen made contact, causing Magnussen's car to spin and hit Guanyu's car. All three drivers were unharmed.
Challenge of Side-by-Side Climbing
The narrowness of the Sainte Devote corner presented a challenge when Perez and Magnussen attempted to climb the hill side-by-side. Magnussen's Haas car was beginning to lose control as they reached the summit, resulting in the contact that triggered the collision.
