Consumer Price Index in India Rises to 19290 Points in July 2024

Significant Increase from June

New Delhi, August 15, 2024 -

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in India has increased to 19290 points in July 2024, a significant jump from the 19020 points recorded in June. This 1.4% increase marks an acceleration in the inflation rate, raising concerns among policymakers and consumers.

The CPI measures changes in the general level of prices for goods and services purchased by households. The latest data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) indicates an ongoing rise in the cost of living. The NSO's release notes that the CPI is based on the collection of retail prices from selected outlets in 88 principal cities and towns across the country.

The rise in CPI is attributed to several factors, including higher fuel and food prices. The government has been monitoring the situation closely and implementing measures to mitigate the impact on consumers, such as providing subsidies and regulating the supply of essential commodities.
