Consumer Price Index-Industrial Workers 2023

New Delhi, December 12, 2023

The National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), has released the Consumer Price Index-Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) for November 2023.

The All-India CPI-IW for November 2023 increased by 0.7 points and stood at 139.1 (one hundred thirty-nine point one).

The index has been revised by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), MoSPI, effective from January 2016, with a new base year of 2016=100.

The CPI-IW is a measure of the change in the retail prices of goods and services consumed by industrial workers in India. It is compiled by the NSO from data collected from various cities across the country.

The CPI-IW is used by the government to determine the cost-of-living index and to adjust wages and salaries of industrial workers.

Conclusion

The increase in the CPI-IW for November 2023 is a sign of rising inflation in India. This is a concern for the government, as high inflation can lead to a number of economic problems, including reduced purchasing power and slower economic growth.
